Lost Septic? Here is a way to find it.

Have you ever wanted to locate something under ground? As a realtor in Asheville NC, I have found the need to locate things that you cannot see. Septic Systems, and other things that you cannot see can be difficult and expensive to dig up.

The problem: When you buy a foreclosure property you know nothing about the house. You must do all of your research. It is buyer beware because the bank takes no responsibility for the property.

So where is it? When was it built? what is the design? Is there a permit? How many bedrooms will it allow? why is this important?

This blog is to show an easy way to find a missing Septic Tank system quickly.

To the left you see a machine used by a plumber. In this case "Royal Flush Plumbing" they do work in Haywood and Buncombe County. The Machine shows a visual of a camera which will be fed down the pipe to the septic tank.



Here you can see the line being fed into a clean out in the main sewer line. As we fed the line down the pipe we saw a PVC line with no damage. This was good news because the house had been built in 1945. Back then the type of pipe was a material that could easily have deteriorated, the pipe may have collapsed or been crushed by vehicles driving over the line. We discovered according to the machine that the sewer line to the septic tank ran 67 feet. WOW! Who would have thought?




We were then able to use a hand held sensor to follow the camera and marked the exact path of the line and located the exact depth. Our septic line terminated at the tank 3 ft 6" below the surface of the driveway next to the fence. From there it was easy to locate everything. Total Cost? About $275-350 depending on what we needed to tear apart to access the sewer line. What did it save us? Hours of time drilling holes in the ground. Damage to the line if we had drilled through it. Digging up and repaving the driveway. When you need to know this is the solution.
